Medicare Coverage for Diabetes (2026)

About 33% of Medicare beneficiaries have diabetes or pre-diabetes. The 2026 Medicare benefit package — including the $35 insulin cap, expanded CGM coverage, and the new $2,000 Part D drug cap — is the most diabetes-friendly in Medicare's history. But the right plan choice still varies dramatically by your specific medications and providers.

  • GLP-1 drugs (Ozempic, Mounjaro, Trulicity): Covered under Part D for Type 2 diabetes (NOT for weight loss alone).
  • Diabetes self-management training: 10 hours initially + 2 hours/year follow-up.
  • Annual diabetic eye exam: $0 under Part B for diabetic retinopathy screening.
