Florida runs on the federal HealthCare.gov Marketplace, and most applicants qualify for a premium tax credit that lowers the monthly cost. Subsidies

What subsidies are available to Floridians?

The Advance Premium Tax Credit (APTC) pays part or all of your monthly Marketplace premium based on income and household size.

Because Florida uses the federal Marketplace, every subsidy rule set by the IRS and CMS applies here — and Florida's income mix means a large share of applicants qualify.

  • 100%–150% FPL: Most applicants qualify for benchmark Silver plans with $0 or near-$0 premiums after APTC, plus the strongest cost-sharing reductions (lower deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums).
  • 150%–400% FPL: Tiered premium tax credits cap what you pay at a percentage of income. For many middle-income Florida households, this lands a Silver plan under $100/mo.
  • Above 400% FPL: Under current law extending enhanced ACA subsidies, premiums are capped at 8.5% of household income — meaningful relief for self-employed Floridians and early retirees.

Subsidy amounts are an estimate until your application is filed. We run the exact numbers with you before you enroll.

Plan options

Top ACA carriers in Florida

Availability depends on your county. Miami-Dade, Broward, Orange, Hillsborough, and Duval generally have the widest selection.

Florida Blue (BCBSFL)

The state's largest individual-market carrier. Broad statewide PPO and HMO networks, strong provider relationships with Baptist Health, AdventHealth, and Orlando Health.

Oscar Health

Tech-forward HMO with $0 virtual primary care, same-day doctor messaging, and competitive Silver pricing in South Florida and the I-4 corridor.

UnitedHealthcare & Ambetter

UnitedHealthcare offers individual plans in a growing set of Florida counties. Ambetter from Sunshine Health is widely available and often among the lowest-premium Silver options statewide.

Molina & Aetna CVS Health

Molina focuses on low-premium Silver plans for subsidy-eligible members. Aetna CVS Health pairs medical coverage with MinuteClinic and CVS pharmacy integration.

Important to know

Florida's Medicaid coverage gap

Florida is one of ten states that has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA.

Because ACA premium tax credits begin at 100% of the Federal Poverty Level, adults earning below that threshold who do not fit a categorical Medicaid group (pregnancy, disability, certain parents of minor children) fall into a "coverage gap."

  • Below 100% FPL: Typically not eligible for Marketplace subsidies and often not eligible for Florida Medicaid. We help identify federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), hospital charity care programs, and community resources.
  • Children and pregnancy: Florida Medicaid and Florida KidCare (CHIP) have broader income eligibility and cover most children in low-income households.
  • Income near the line: Even small changes in estimated annual income can move a household from the gap into subsidy eligibility. We walk through projected-income scenarios carefully, in line with Marketplace rules.
Timing

When can you enroll in Florida?

2026 Open Enrollment: November 1, 2025 through January 15, 2026.

  • Enroll by December 15, 2025 for coverage effective January 1, 2026.
  • Enroll between December 16 and January 15 for coverage effective February 1, 2026.
  • Special Enrollment Period: Qualifying events include loss of job-based coverage, marriage, divorce, birth or adoption, a permanent move to Florida, or a significant income change. Most SEPs give you 60 days to enroll.
  • Year-round for some: Households below 150% FPL can enroll any month of the year under current Marketplace rules.
Common questions

Florida ACA FAQ

Does Florida have its own Marketplace website?
No. Florida uses the federal HealthCare.gov Marketplace. There is no separate "MyFloridaHealth" exchange. A SilverEdge advisor can quote and enroll you directly — you don't have to navigate HealthCare.gov alone.
Will my doctor be in-network?
We check your specific doctors and hospitals against each plan's network before you enroll. This matters in Florida, where Florida Blue, AdventHealth, Baptist Health, and HCA network relationships vary carrier by carrier.
What if I earn too much for a subsidy?
Under current enhanced subsidy rules, there is no strict cliff at 400% FPL — premiums are capped at 8.5% of household income. For higher earners we also review non-Marketplace options where suitable, including catastrophic plans (if eligible) and off-exchange plans.
What does SilverEdge cost?
Nothing. Carriers pay us a commission when you enroll. We earn the same regardless of which carrier you pick — our job is to find your best fit.
