How it works
The 2026 ACA subsidy rules, briefly.
- Premium tax credit is based on your household income vs. the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for your household size.
- Below 150% FPL — you typically qualify for a benchmark Silver plan at $0/mo premium.
- 150–400% FPL — your subsidy is scaled so your benchmark plan costs no more than 0–8.5% of household income.
- Above 400% FPL — enhanced subsidies under the Inflation Reduction Act still cap your premium at 8.5% of income through 2026.
- Cost-sharing reductions (CSR) — below 250% FPL, Silver plans also get reduced deductibles and copays.
